Being aware of high blood sugar symptoms early on can can help you to detect illness and prevent lasting damage. An increased amount of blood sugar or glucose in the body is referred to as hyperglycemia, a problem that can be a symptom of diabetes. One of the problems of detecting higher levels of sugar is that the symptoms may not at first be noticeable.

The body receives glucose from different foods, as well as manufacturing its own glucose. Glucose is a source of energy for the different cell processes occurring in the body. • Sudden drop in weight and prolonged tiredness.  Because the body can no longer use glucose to supply the energy the cells need to perform various tasks, it begins using the stored reserves of fat and then muscle tissue to get access to the energy. As a result the individual begins to have a feeling of tiredness and starts to lose weight very rapidly.
   
• Lack of concentration.  Mood swings and difficulty in focusing on a specific topic may occur because the increased blood sugar levels interferes with the regular functioning of the brain. 

Hyperglycemia, in an uncontrolled state, may develop into dehydration, causing problems such as lethargy, coma conditions, dizziness and tiredness.

If the illness is not detected at an early stage from the high blood sugar symptoms, it can lead to ketoacidosis, otherwise known as diabetic coma. It is the breaking down of fat that causes the high increase and storage of ketones in the body. Too many of these can lead to nausea, headaches, vomiting and tiredness.
